The Texas Gulf Coast chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is recruiting corporations and other groups to compete in its Outback Steakhouse Sports Challenge, presented by Texas Children's Hospital, Saturday at the Houston Polo Club. The half-day, mini-Olympics is open to athletes of all levels. Ten-member teams of five men and five women will compete for gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals and traveling trophies in six events -- the Houston ENT Football Throw, the Beirne, Maynard & Parsons Obstacle Course, the Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Team Jump Rope, the Vinson & Elkins Tug of War, The Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital Buddy Walker and the Southern National Bank Hot Shots.

Cystic Fibrosis is an incurable hereditary disorder that leads to problems with breathing and digestion and infection. Most babies born with cystic fibrosis thirty years ago died in early childhood, but advances in diagnosing and treating the disease have significantly improved its prognosis. With research and funding, even better treatments may be produced in the coming years.
